Aikawa House

A historic family home, welcoming guests again

Located a short walk from the island’s UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site – the gold mines and historic kyomachi street – Aikawa House will become a home away from home for travelers exploring this captivating island.

Our careful renovation will modernise the design palate and improve thermal efficiency whilst keeping the traditional natural materials found throughout the house.

The house was once home to the Toda family whose name still adorns the warehouse that can be found at the back of the property. Generations of the family lived here before the family moved to the mainland. A selection of the most interesting items from the family’s hobbies such as photography and astronomy will be displayed in the house.

Boasting 3 large bedrooms, a communal dining area and a sumptuous living room, the property will be able to comfortably accommodate groups of friends or family gatherings with ease. The large full bathroom with a deep tub for soaking will be updated with modern fittings giving guests space to relax and refresh. Upstairs will be a half bathroom (shower, toilet and sink).

The fully equipped kitchen allows guests to prepare and enjoy meals together after a day exploring the island. Provisions can be gathered from the nearby supermarket, local shops and convenience stores. For those that prefer to sample the local cuisine, there are a wide selection of restaurants within walking distance.

The garden will be transformed into a relaxing space with a wooden deck and local plants from which to enjoy alfresco dining, sundowners and good conversation.

A sea view can be enjoyed from the front bedroom on the second floor, while the bedroom at the back of the property has views of the forest and a local shrine.

Garage parking is available on site. Bicycles are provided to allow for easy exploration of the surrounding area, including the shopping streets, the beaches and the gold mine.
